A community open-house was held on Thursday September 28th to offer information and gain community feedback on the Lakeside Place Seniors Housing Project in Nelson, BC. Participants were given the opportunity to review display panels and ask questions from NSDA, City Spaces Consulting and representatives from the Nelson CARES Society.
The new affordable housing development will be located at 805 Nelson Ave. (at the corner of Nelson and Kokanee Ave.), replacing an aging and under used motel on the site. The project is funded by BC Housing and will be operated by the Nelson CARES Society.
The four-storey, wood-frame building will provide 47 modern and affordable rental apartments. 42 of the one- and two-bedroom apartments are designed for seniors of low and moderate incomes, and 5 units will house adults with disabilities at risk of being unhoused. In addition to the housing units there is generous amenity spaces and offices on the ground level, with some parking for residents underground.
A rezoning application will be made in October 2017 and project completion is slated for the Fall of 2019.
